Reflections and technology

Hi Colleagues,
Have you recognised that I am not the same person that I was a few short weeks ago? This is because the technology bug has bitten me. In the beginning, after the first bite, I was disoriented, flustered, feeling out of my depth, in short I had all the symptoms of 'Web2.0itis.' I contacted my Web2.0 doctors and nurses and a number of care professionals who saw me safely through.

They held my hand and told me every thing was going to be alright. They gave me food to eat, Jenny, thanks for the channa pie and cheese sandwich made with homemade bread. Donna thanks for always that helping hand and the red plums. Roland thank you for the reinforcement lesson on blogging. Could you believe it my friends? I had forgotten after being taught in class.Trumanne, Delores, Beverly, Amanda and Jennifer thank you for on the spot clarification in class.

Mrs. Cletus thank you for your patience. It was your first large class and I know you worked hard for your money. You went around to your students to ensure that they understood. You demonstrated well. You had our attention. Because of the compactness of the course, the time frame for delivery and assimilation proved to be a disadvantage to a wonderful programme. I think our class was a bit more challenged in terms of grasping and implementing the technology totally. Although there were some students who were very accomplished. I think this was good as they were able to share with class members.

As you can tell, I am well on my way to recovery. Pbworks sent me a seven day workshop on using wikis in the classroom. I am going to practice. I really want to become tecnologically savvy so that I can help my students at school. I also teach adults to read. Now I have a new reportoire of technologies to get them excited and even more motivated about their reading. Their self esteem will continue to grow as mine has. I am proud of myself, I did not give up. I am in a much better place with regard to using technology. I did not realise that I would have so much support.

Thank You every one. You have been so unselfish and supportive. I wish you all success with the technology. Thanks to our teaching crew, you were great, very professional and helpful.

Lots of Love, God Bless!!!

  1. Hey Miss Roslyn, whatsoever a man (or a woman) seweth that shall he reap. You mentioned many names as you expressed your thanks, and I remember a few instances when I was feeling overwhelmed, you by kind words of encouragement, helped me to go on. You may not even remember, but thank you. Glad to know you got over the Web2.0itis, but not the spiderbyte, as I am quite sure you will continue on and excel in the technology.

    Regards

  3. Hi Roslyn,

This course was very interesting. What I observed was that in attempting to assists others I was also helping myself. This course forced me to rely on collaboration with my table members (Jenny, Roslyn, Trumaine) and if we still did not understand we had Cherise to guide us through. Thank you Cherise. I believe that this approach in the classroom will prove to be very beneficial for all the parties involved.

  4. Hi Rose, I am so glad that you are so enthused about the past two months but right now i cannot share your enthusiasm. You see I am inundated with writing lesson plans which, when I add up all the words might very well surpass a small thesis. However I do share the truthfulness of your post, which is we learned a lot of new literacies. Except I think that it was hurried in the sense that for those of us who are not so well off in the use of the technology, it took us longer to assimilate. Even while i was still chewing on the new that was taught I was forced to bite off another bit of something else. I like the technology, yes, but I have to take it at a moderate pace. I am not so technorati, sorry techno-savvy.

  5. I thoroughly enjoyed blogging. The level of academic and literary engagement is astonishing. I have been browsing through other blog sites and reading the commentaries. It is amazing the number of persons one is able to connect with just sitting behind a screen. I have within a few months revolutionised my use of ICT and is looking forward to greater involvement with the technology. The five lesson plans are surely going to test how well I can integrate the web 2.0 technology into instructional programmes for literacy development. While I do anticipate some challenges I feel confident that with time I will become very proficient in the use of the technology.
